Huang Shan
People say “…..once you’ve been to Huang Shan, you don’t need to visit other mountains!”….I tend to agree with that.
Huang Shan area covers 154 square kilometers with 77 peaks over 1,000 meters. The highest peaks have altitude around 1,800 meters.
The most fascinating attraction of Huang Shan has nothing to do with its altitude though. The sea of clouds and fog, the lighting, the seasonal color of the plants, etc., make one wonders it is the closest description of a real life fairy tale experience. For photographers like me, Huang Shan is a paradise setting too good to be true.
During the shooting, it happened 3 to 4 times that the scene I planned to take was completely vanished just when I was switching lens! Yes, the clouds and mist moved in a very fast pace one can hardly imagine. For the same spot, you can always enjoy its different expressions within couple minutes of time.
For pictures here, I chose to use heavy contrast ratio to relate the glowing cloud and the textured landscape, so as to reflect the true beauty of the scene. I tried to convey a visual communication based on water color treatment in Chinese painting. An actual print of 18 inch X 24 inch will reveal a much greater impact and details of the image.
